March 17th St. Patrick´s Day

Saint Patrick is the patrón saint and national apostle of Ireland. St. Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland.

Background

It is believed St. Patrick was born in the late fourth century. He is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland, which was probably a symbol for having put an end to pagan practices.
Saint Patrick´s Day has come associated with Irish culture: Green and gold colours, shamrocks and luck. For those who celebrate its intended meaning, this is a day for spiritual renewal and prayer.


What do people do?
Many Irish attend mass to offer prayers for missionaries worldwide.
In many cities around the world, St. Patrick,s Day is also very important since the Irish spread thier customs and traditions around the world. Generally, this day is celebrated with parades, music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, colouring and games.
